Home/Cloud & AWS hosting
Cloud & AWS
Cloud infrastructure, with the region chosen on purpose.
Hostingport architects, builds and manages cloud infrastructure on AWS or the provider you already use, with Canadian regions selected deliberately when data has to stay in Canada.
Built for platforms and SaaS products that need to scale under load, shrink afterwards, and survive a customer's security review.
The work
Four things, usually in this order.
Audit
What is actually running, what it costs, where the data sits, who holds access, and what breaks if one person disappears. Most inherited cloud accounts have at least one answer nobody likes.
Architecture
Region, redundancy, network boundaries, identity and access, backup and recovery objectives — decided against what the business needs and what its customers will ask about, before anything gets built.
Build and migrate
Standing it up, moving the workload across, and cutting over with the same staging-and-test discipline as any other migration.
Run it
Monitoring and alerting that someone reads, patching, certificate renewal, backup verification, and a cost review often enough to catch the resource nobody turned off.
Data residency
Where your data lives is a design decision.
If you handle personal information about Canadians, residency is likely to come up — from a regulator, an enterprise customer, or a public-sector procurement process.
region
Canadian regions selected explicitly, so data at rest stays in Canada rather than wherever the default landed.
backups
Backup destinations checked too — a Canadian workload with backups written elsewhere isn't resident.
third parties
The APIs your application calls are part of the answer. Knowing which ones cross the border beats discovering it during due diligence.
evidence
Configuration you can point at when a customer asks, instead of an assurance you'd rather not have to defend.
Common questions
Cloud hosting, answered.
Does Hostingport resell AWS or manage my own account?
Either. Most clients keep their own AWS account, which means they own the infrastructure outright and can take it elsewhere; we operate inside it. Where a client would rather not hold the account at all, it can be run under ours. Owning the account is usually the better position for the client.
What does Canadian data residency actually mean on AWS?
It means choosing a Canadian region — ca-central-1 in Montreal or ca-west-1 in Calgary — so that data at rest stays inside Canada. It does not automatically cover every service you might add later, backups written elsewhere, or third-party APIs your application calls. Residency is a set of deliberate configuration choices, not a checkbox.
Is cloud hosting cheaper than a dedicated server?
Often not. Steady, predictable workloads are usually cheaper on a dedicated machine. Cloud earns its cost when load is spiky, when you need redundancy across availability zones, or when the business is growing fast enough that fixed capacity keeps becoming wrong. Unmanaged cloud bills grow quietly, which is why cost review is part of the work.
Can you help with a customer security questionnaire?
Yes. Enterprise buyers ask where data lives, who can access it, how it is backed up, what the recovery objectives are, and what happens when a subprocessor changes. Those answers come from how the infrastructure is built, so the questions are worth reading before the architecture is settled rather than after.
We are already on AWS and it is a mess. Can you take it over?
That is a common starting point. The work usually begins with an audit: what is actually running, what it costs, where the data sits, who has access, and what would happen if the person who built it left. Remediation follows in priority order from there.
