Managed shared hosting

Shared hosting that isn't oversold.

Managed shared hosting from Hostingport puts your site in its own isolated account on a Canadian server with a neighbour count in the dozens, not the thousands.

Backups, TLS certificates, DNS, mailboxes and email authentication are included, and the person who configured the account is the person who answers when you need something.

Who it suits

Right for most sites. Wrong for a few.

Shared hosting is the correct answer far more often than the industry admits. A marketing site, a small business site, a portfolio, a WordPress build, a low-traffic application — none of these need a dedicated machine, and paying for one buys nothing but a bigger invoice.

What they do need is a server that isn't packed to the ceiling. The reason shared hosting has a poor reputation is overselling: budget providers stack thousands of accounts onto one machine and let them fight for CPU and memory. Your site is slow because of a neighbour you'll never identify, on a plan whose support desk will tell you to upgrade.

We keep density low deliberately. Fewer accounts per server costs us margin and saves you the upgrade you didn't need.

Where shared stops being the answer

  • Sustained traffic that consistently uses everything allocated to the account
  • An application needing configuration that can't be applied safely on a shared machine
  • A contract, customer or regulator requiring demonstrable isolation
  • Background processing heavy enough to affect other tenants

When you hit one of those, a dedicated server or cloud infrastructure is the honest recommendation. Until then, we'll tell you to stay put.

Common questions

Shared hosting, answered.

What is managed shared hosting?

Shared hosting means several sites run on one server, each in its own isolated account. Managed means the operator handles the server: updates, certificates, backups, DNS and mail configuration, and diagnosing problems when a site misbehaves. You are responsible for your content and application; everything underneath it is handled for you.

Is shared hosting fast enough for a business website?

For most business websites, yes. Speed problems on shared hosting are usually caused by overselling — hundreds or thousands of accounts competing for the same resources — rather than by sharing itself. Hostingport keeps account density low, which is why a well-built site on shared hosting will typically outperform the same site on a cheaper oversold plan.

When should I move off shared hosting?

When your traffic consistently saturates the resources allocated to your account, when an application needs configuration that cannot be applied safely on a shared machine, or when a customer or regulator requires isolation you can demonstrate. Until one of those is true, moving up costs money without improving anything.

Is email included with shared hosting?

Yes. Mailboxes, forwarders and the authentication records that keep your mail out of spam folders are part of the account, including SPF, DKIM and DMARC configuration.

Can I host more than one website on a shared account?

Yes. Additional domains and subdomains can run under a single account, each with their own certificate. Whether that is sensible depends on the sites: separate accounts are cleaner when the sites belong to different owners or need to be handed over independently.
